Drivers Killed in Train-lorry Collision near Bangalore

Bangalore, Mar 26 (PTI): Two persons died today when a goods train collided with a lorry at a railway gate in Devanahalli taluk in the district, police said today.

The drivers of the goods train and lorry died on the spot after the train engine crashed into the front portion of a lorry while crossing the unmanned railway gate at Yaradaganahalli, Inspector R Govindaraju said.

The train driver has been identified as Somashekhar (34) and the other deceased is yet to be identified, Govindaraju said. Somashekar was a resident of Chennai, he added.

A case has been registered.

    27 DISLIKES AGAINST 1 LIKE..right now..I salute the person who clicked LIKE button. Even in my dream I can't expect that train's front portion would crush like this if lorry dashed against it.So naturally I have to say Lorry is as strong as Train..

    The comments of Prakash, Hyderabad are nonsensical. Surely no system in the world is foolproof, nevertheless attempts must be made to make such events rare. A gate automated or otherwise will surely stop a truck but maybe not a man.

    Regarding self-restraint the comments are even more cynical and stupid. All know cigarette smoking is bad, there are even labels on cigarette packs, yet people do smoke and die of cancer. Prakash advocates self-restraint and in this case will blame the consumer and not the cigarette makers who try every trick in the world, advertising whenever possible to make smoking glamorous. The same can be said of alcohol manufacturers. Are the cigarette and alcohol companies never culpable like the Railways? Off course they are and they share blame. Operating machinery puts an obligation on the operator that provisions are in place to safeguard as much as possible safe operation, one cannot account for every exigency but all accountable exigencies must be taken care of, including lorries and trucks that stray onto the railway lines.

    It is not two . One precious life is lost because of the mistake of other person. A manned railway gate is not a solution to this because i see a lot of people pushing their 2 wheelers under the gate and crossing when the gate is closed and shouting on the gate keeper if he objects. The self retrain is the only answer for this you cannot expect railways to do everything for your safety without your own cooperation

    Two lives lost in a senseless accident, which could have been avoided by either an overpass or an automated gate that lowers as a train approaches. There are thousands of such unmanned crossings in India and this one was right near Bangalore International airport at Devannhalli not in some obscure village. Well Mamata didi you will have more blood on your hands. With the modest increase in fares the additional revenue would have provided funds to install such automated gates at unmanned crossing. This accident comes on the day that the newly anointed Rail mantri Mukul Roy talked of safety, making a mockery of that word. Now two people are dead, two widows are created, Rome burns while nero fiddles.
