Udupi, Mar 21: Addressing party activists at the district BJP office here on Wednesday March 21, BJP candidate for Udupi-Chikmagalur bypoll V Sunil Kumar said that the poll result was unexpected and that he accepts it as his personal defeat.
"The results of Udupi – Chikmagalur parliamentary bypolls were unexpected. I accept it as my personal defeat and will not hold anyone responsible for it," he said.
Sunil Kumar said that he felt the reason for the defeat was that he could not reach out to all the voters in just 18 days of bypoll campaign.
"I will not be disheartened by the defeat, instead I will begin a tour of the constituency tomorrow itself to respond to the aspirations of party activists," he added.
He also urged the partymen to accept the bypoll result as a challenge and prepare themselves for the forthcoming legislative assembly polls and the general elections in 2014.
He also expressed his gratitude to the people for casting their valuable votes for him, and thanked veteran partymen, activists and well-wishers.
Chikmagalur BJP district president Pranesh, Udupi district BJP president Uday Kumar Shetty, BJP state vice president Sulochana Bhat, MLA Raghupati Bhat and others were present.
