Mangalore, Mar 16: On the occasion of the decennial year celebrations of St Joseph's Engineering College, Vamanjoor, here, 'Tech Fest - 2012' was inaugurated on Friday March 16 at 9.30 am in the college auditorium.
Tech Fest - 2012 was inaugurated by chief guest Anand L N, executive engineer, Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board (KUWSDB) and Sandeep Naik, DGM, HR, MRPL, Mangalore, who was the guest of honour at the inaugural Function by lighting the lamp. The dignitaries present on the dais were Fr Valerian D’Souza, director, SJEC, Fr Henry Mascarenhas, assistant director, SJEC, Dr Joseph Gonsalves, principal, SJEC who presided over the function, Dr Rio D’Souza, dean, academics/MCA, prof Eric Patrao, dean P&D and Dr Pius Pinto AJ, convener of the decennial celebrations committee.
Dr Thirumaleshwara Bhat, professor and head of Mechanical Engineering department, welcomed the gathering with warm wishes to all and the dignitaries were then felicitated by the students. This was followed by the lighting of the lamp which officially declared Tech Fest 2012 open.
The chief guest, Anand L N addressed the gathering wherein he voiced his appreciation for the organizers and urged the students to “make innovation in technology or perish”. The guest of honour, Sandeep Naik motivated the youth by saying “Tech Fest is an event of learning”. The president of the function, Dr Joseph Gonsalves said 'Tech Fest' helps the students to demonstrate and create engineering knowledge outside the theory classes.
The curtains were drawn on the inauguration ceremony with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr Pius Pinto AJ, thereby declaring the fest open to all.
The students of various colleges across Dakshina Kannada district will be a part of this two day technical bonanza and around 1000 students will be actively participating in the various technical events. The first day of the fest will end with a cultural evening and the fest will conclude on Saturday March 17 with a valedictory function.
