Sullia, Mar 11: The police have sought to close the allegations of atrocities levelled against them by certain BJP leaders relating to an incident in which stones were pelted at the local police station in the second week of December last year. They have filed ‘B’ report in the court.
In this connection, P K Umesh, BJP activist and one of the complainants, has received a case closure notice. It is learnt that Umesh has decided to file an objection to the proposal to close the case.
The police had raided homes and brought about 15 persons including two BJP leaders from their houses forcibly at night, relating to the said incident. Some of them including Umesh had complained about the torture through archaic methods they allegedly suffered at the hands of police during their confinement at the police station. Some of them were also admitted into hospital for treatment, and a copy of the first information report had been filed in the court.
The police have initiated steps to withdraw the case by filing B report in the court, a few days before they are scheduled to file charge sheet in the case.
