Udupi: Rs 14.5-lac Theft at Doddanagudde - Police Arrest Youth

Udupi, Mar 9: Police have arrested a 26-year-old youth in connection with the robbery and stabbing incident reported at a house in Doddanagudde on the night of Sunday March 4.

The arrested is Sringesh, who hails from Mavalli in Teerthahalli, Shimoga.

His accomplices, however are still absonding. He was picked up from Devarachikkanahalli near Bangalore, after police followed and hunted him ever since the robbery took place.

The police also recovered the stolen Innova car, in which he was trying to escape, and some of the valuables he and his gang stole.

It may be recalled that a gang of three had barged into the house on March 4, and decamped with valuables and an Innova car, totally valued at around Rs 14.50 lac. The house in question is located behind Baliga Hospital, and belongs to Kanaka R Amin.

Kanaka and her relatives were watching television, when the three men approached them and asked about a person named Santosh, working as a painter. The youth tried to force their way into the house, but those inside the house resisted. The gang threatened those present by brandishing a knife, before stabbing Vasudeva Poojary, one of the relatives, with the knife, gagging him with the help of a plaster, and confining him to a room.

The gang then forced Kanaka to open the doors of steel cupboards, and took away nine golden bangles, a gold chain, two diamond rings, an American diamond ring, a pair of diamond ear rings, three wrist watches, Rs 1.75 lac in cash, three mobile phones, and a laptop. The three robbers then made good their escape in the Innova car belonging to the family, which was parked in front of the house.

A report in this connection was filed in Manipal police station. The police formed three teams and traced the trio to the outskirts of Bangalore where Sringesh was arrested. They are expected to arrest the other two soon.

    All praise to police of Udupi for nabbing the robber.This bring trust in police department.Those robbers should be kept in confinement for good.

    You must fight fire with fire. I am so much happy that the police have swung into action and have brought one member in their fold which will lead to arrest of all involved. Hope the police would take this to logical conclusion by ensuring severe punishment as a deterrent to avoid repetition of such crimes.
