Mangalore, Mar 9: The members of National Women’s Front (NWF), Udupi, celebrated ‘World Women’s Day’ at the women’s cell in the district sub-jail on Thursday March 8 by distributing clothes, moral reading books, fruits, and sweets.
Fifteen women prisoners and their five kids participated in the programme that was co-ordinated by women.
A variety of competitions were held for the inmate women’s kids, while Ratnamma secured the first prize for lighting 18 candles out of a single lighted match stick. Haseeda and Savita were the runners-up.
The women organizers urged the women inmates not to brood over bad moments, and instead to undergo imprisonment and to lead a better life after their release. The inmates were joyous to witness the celebrations in their midst and sought prayers for their early release.
NWF Udupi district president Zareena, secretary Afroz, members Asma Malpe, Zubaida Udupi, Sadiqa Ucchila, Farzana Parveen Padubidri and jailor Ambekar were present on the occasion.
