Panaji, Mar 7 (IANS): The record 82 percent-plus voting in Goa may have seen two political families being voted out of electoral contention, but if you think 'family raj' has been completely wiped out from the political landscape, think again.

Despite the defeat of four members of the Alemao family and Home Minister Ravi Naik and his son, the 12th Goa assembly will still see the presence of three families who share six seats between then.

Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) coalition partner, the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), has returned two brothers Sudin Dhavalikar (Priol) and Deepak Dhavalikar (Marcaim). Both were members of the last assembly, in which they were part of the ruling dispensation.

Former education minister, and legislator from St Cruz, Atanasio Monserrate and his wife Jennifer from Taleigao constituency have also been elected this time round. This is Jennifer's maiden appearance as a legislator, while Atanasio has been a legislator for nearly a decade.

The third family duo is former chief minister Pratapsing Rane and his son Vishwajeet Rane, who have been elected from the Poriem and Valpoi constituencies, respectively.

The Congress-Nationalist Congress Party combine was heavily criticised for allotting 12 tickets to kin of sitting legislators for elections to the house of 40 elected representatives. While the NCP failed to win a single seat from the seven constituencies it was contesting in, the ruling Congress was routed and reduced to a single digit tally of nine.
