Mangalore, Mar 7: Mangalore Bar Association president, S P Chengappa, clarified that the association has not passed any resolutions cancelling the bar council memberships of Congress leader, Janardhana Poojary, and advocates, P P Hegde and Ivan D’Souza. Some reports had said that the association had taken a decision to cancel memberships of these three members, based on their statements criticizing the action of the lawyers in the attack on media persons at Bangalore.
He dismissed media reports appearing in this connection as untrue. “The association has neither conducted meetings, not passed this resolution. These are only rumours aimed at creating a divide among the lawyers,” he opined.
High Court advocate, P P Hegde, in the meantime, said that it would be wrong to hold the entire lawyers community as guilty, for the wrong action of a few lawyers. “This has given rise to a sense of frustration among advocates. However, there are no two opinions about the fact that those who indulged in violence need to be punished,” he clarified. He at the same time, hastened to add that the policemen were wrong in committing atrocities on lawyers relating to the above incident.
