Puttur, Feb 27: The policemen have claimed that they have solved the murder case of Sundari Naik alias Ratnavati, wife of Rama Naik, at Eshwaramangala Pulittadi in Nettanige Mudnoor village in the taluk on February 24. They have found that Sundari was killed by her own daughter, Saraswati, and her lover, Chandrashekhar Naik.
The love affair between Saraswati and Chandrashekhar Naik is two-year old. Chandrashekhar is a married man, and he used to stay in the house of Sundari, after leaving behind his wife and children at his house in Alankar. Chandrashekhar, a relative of Rama Naik, reportedly worked as cooly, and he was facing two cases of theft. Hence, Sundari did not approve of the relationship and insisted on ending this relationship at any cost.
Angered by Sundari’s stiff resistance to their plans, Saraswati and Chandrashekhar hatched a plan to kill Sundari. They knew that the owners of the plantation where Sundari worked were on outstation visit last Friday. They went to the shed where Sundari was husking the areca nuts alone, and raised the topic of their marriage. Sundari rebuked them, after which a verbal altercation ensued. The two then murdered Sundari in the shed in the same shed with the help of the handle of a hoe, before tossing the body into the nearby tank and fleeing away.
During questioning of the concerned by rural circle inspector, H Y Jagadish and Puttur rural sub-inspector, M B Nandakumar, along personnel of district crime intelligence bureau under the direction of assistant superintendent of police, M N Anuchet, these details came out. The accused were produced before the magistrate on Sunday, and both were remanded to judicial custody.
