Bangalore: Mangalore, 6 Other City Corporations Asked to Act on Water Problem

Bangalore, Feb 23: Mangalore and six other City Corporation Councils in the State have been asked to appoint Special Officers to tackle the drinking water problems in their respective cities during the summer months.
Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister S Suresh Kumar, who is also holding additional charge of Urban Development, held video conferences with the Commissioners of all the six City Corporation Councils at Vidhana Soudha on Thursday.
The Minister directed the executive heads of the Civic Bodies appoint special officers to monitor supply of drinking water and check misuse of water tankers by the corporation staff.
The Commissioners of City Corporation Councils, with whom the Minister held video conference at Vidhana Soudha, are: Mangalore, Belgaum, Tumkur, Bellary, Hubli-Dharwad, Gulbarga and Mysore.
Deputy Commissioners of seven districts were also participated in the video conference with the Minister.
The Minister instructed officials to take to take steps on a war footing to solve drinking water scarcity.
Officials of all seven corporations have been told send their proposal on drilling borewells, if required, to mitigate water scarcity.
The Department would not delay in sanctioning of funds and borwells to corporations, Kumar assured officials.
With the arrival of summer, the Minister told commissioners to set up task forces to prevent onset of communicable diseases.
