Mangalore, Feb 21: Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing and Laxmi Memorial Institute of Nursing celebrated Annual Day and Graduation Day recently at A J Institute of Medical Sciences, Kuntikana, here.
The programme commenced with the entry of graduates in a procession by the way of traditional pattern followed by the dignitaries. The guests and the graduates were welcomed by a prayer dance followed by formal stage function. The function was inaugurated by lighting of the lamp by all dignitaries. Dr Charles Dias, member of the parliament, New Delhi, was the chief guest of the function, and he stressed upon the role of nurses and how well it is significant in caring for patients with the use of scientific knowledge.
Prof Shirly David, additional deputy dean of college of Nursing, CMC, Vellore was the guest of honour for the function. She spoke on the Nobel profession of nursing and stressed on importance of graduation in students’ life and said that graduation is a journey into the life of a profession and is not an end.
A J Shetty, president of Laxmi Memorial Education Trust, presided over the function. He gave a message to graduates that the world is big and full of opportunities for nurses as many hospitals are coming up and Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing provides a firm basis to excel in professional education and practice.
This was later followed by awarding certificates and oath taking by the graduates.
Annual report reading was done by Prof Larissa Martha Sams, principal of Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing followed by prize distribution.
Prof Theresa L Mendonca, vice-principal, welcomed the gathering. Vinutha D’Souza, associate professor, delivered the vote of thanks. Joyline Sunitha and Lora S Pais, assistant lecturers compered the programme. The function was concluded by a cultural programme and was followed by dinner.
