Kasargod, Feb 19: Hosadurga police have registered cases against 20 persons from within the limits of Balal panchayat, accusing them of sexually harassing unmarried women belonging to tribal families. With this, the number of cases registered relating to sexually harassing tribal women in the district has gone up to 92.
At the Jagruti Adalat organized by Anti Social Trafficking Cell and Kerala State Women’s Commission on Friday February 17, 20 tribal women lodged complaints. The complainants include women who are young, as well as middle-aged women. The DIG in charge of the cell said that 20 new cases have been registered against men.
In the complaints, these women have demanded for recognizing those who had sexually harassed them and made them pregnant, as the fathers of their children.
T Devi, member of the commission, said that the Adalat was held in Balal panchayat to enable the children of the harassed women to get legal fathers, and to ensure that these children get social justice.
