Mangalore, Feb 17: A Chevrolet car owned by a local businessman, which the police from Chennai had confiscated relating to a case of fraud, was stolen from the city on February 13. In a case registered in Bunder police station here, Vijendra Shet, Rajendra Pawar, and others have been accused by the Chennai police of stealing the car in their possession.
Kilpauk police from Chennai had arrested Rajendra Pawar, a Gujarat-based gold merchant, relating to a complaint of fraud. He was produced in a court in Chennai some time back. During his questioning, Pawar had revealed involvement of a city-based gold merchant named Vijendra Shet in his fraudulent activities. The police brought Pawar here, but could not find Vijendra Shet in spite of intensive search operation in and around his shop and house. But, Shet’s car was found parked in front of the shop.
The police, who confiscated the car, planned to take it away the next morning, and stayed overnight in a hotel in Bunder area. However, when they came back the next morning to take the car away, they found that the car had been stolen.
While one of the keys of the car is in the possession of the police, it appears that the other set of keys were used by the concerned to drive the car away at night.
