Mangalore, Feb 13: To mark the 25th year of existence of women in St Aloysius College, the Kannada Department in association with ‘Ninasam Prathistana Samsthe’ organized a one day inter-collegiate seminar on the topic ‘Mahila Kathana Saahithya: Mooru Dharigalu’ in the main auditorium of St Aloysius College on 12 February 2012.
Dr Saraswathi, the convener in her key note address briefed the objectives of the workshop in relation to the stories of literature, pointing out the works of Veena Satheshwar, Kodagina Gouramma, Vaidhehi, Nemichandra, Sara Aboobakkar and many others. She stressed the importance to be given to women to educate about their potential abilities.
The history has been one sided, and the voice of women is subjugated. Let this seminar help the women to understand the reason and find ways to upheld the values of life. Men and women should come together to form a healthy society, she suggested.
Veronica Judith Pinto, the first women vice principal of St Aloysius college in her presidential address, encouraged women to live in confidence. She mentioned the 25th year existence of women in our college and this seminar is timely, she added.
Dr N Dhamodhar Shetty inaugurated the seminar by symbolically handing over the book to the president on the occasion. Later Dr Shetty read the lines from the book written by the eminent writer Vaidhehi, ‘Aduge Maneya Hudugi’. He also lauded the efforts of Dr Saraswathi and the staff for bringing up such seminar.
Dr TP Ashok, eminent Kannada Literary Critic and Dr LC Sumithra, Kannada writer were the resource persons of the day. Dr Vishwanath Badhikana welcomed and Sudha Murthy thanked the gathering.
