Bangalore, Feb 10: Reacting sharply to Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda’s scathing attack on the Congress leaders for staging dharna before Kengal Hanumanthaiah’s statue in front of Vidhana Soudha demanding immediate disqualification of the three BJP leaders, who were forced to quit over watching porn clips on their mobile handsets inside the Assembly, Opposition Congress leader Motamma in the Legislative Council on Friday accused the ruling party of scared of facing legislature debate on the sordid porn scandal.
''The Chief Minister cannot get away by accusing the Congress leaders of playing cheap politics when three cabinet ministers shamelessly watched blue film clips inside the legislature when the House was discussing the plight of the people due to drought conditions,” she said.
The ruling BJP was forced to ask the three ministers – Laxman Savadi, Krishna Palemar and C C Patil – to quit over their conduct of waching dirty films inside the legislature flouting all sense of propriety and parliamentary decorum not to speak of total disregard for civilized behaviour, Motamma said pointing out that the D V Sadananda Gowda abruptly curtailed the legislature session to avoid a discussion on the floor of the both houses.
Motamma said the Chief Minister, who was preaching of morality, should have controlled the sleaze watching party legislators and reminded Gowda that Congressmen never showed scant disregard for the legislature and indulged in watching blue films either in the Assembly or the Council.
''It is BJP’s culture to curtail the session of legislatures without any debate on issues touching the people,” she said.
The ruling party has been propagating its saffron ideology by holding Hindu Samajotsva, which would not address the real problems faced by the people such as drinking water, illiteracy and unemployment or doling funds from the State exchequer to Hindu religious Mutts, the Congress leader said.
Government Should Enforce Dress Code for College Students
Motamma demanded that the State Government should enforce a compulsory dress code for college students in order to prevent sexual harassment of girl students in schools and colleges.
The Congress leader, who had attracted flak for criticising college professor Sarita for visiting the residence of a Bangalore University don without first ascertaining whether the latter’s wife was present or not during the course of a debate in the Legislative Council, demanded that the Government should come out with the stricter law to punish all the culprits involved in sexual harassment of girl students in schools and colleges.
Several cases sexual harassment of students by teaching staff have been reported from schools, colleges and universities in different parts of the State, she said.
Motamma also wanted a ban on smoking and use of mobile phones by students on college campus.
