Mumbai, Apr 26: In a deeply moving gesture, Maharashtra deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde has extended financial assistance of Rs 5 lac to the family of Syed Adil Hussain Shah, a 20-year-old youth from Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, who was killed while bravely trying to save tourists during a recent terrorist attack.
Syed Adil, who worked as a horse handler ferrying tourists, lost his life while attempting to snatch a terrorist’s weapon to protect a tourist riding with him. “His sacrifice reflects unmatched courage and humanity,” said a release from the Deputy CM’s office.

Shinde, who flew to Srinagar on April 23 to supervise relief efforts for stranded tourists from Maharashtra, visited a relief camp near the airport and heard eyewitness accounts of Syed’s heroic act. Moved by the accounts, he immediately directed officials to extend support to Syed’s grieving family.
On Friday, Shiv Sena workers, along with border authorities, personally delivered the cheque to Syed’s family in Pahalgam. Local MLA Syed Rafiq Shah was also present during the visit.
Speaking to the family via video call, Shinde expressed heartfelt condolences and assured continued government support. “Syed’s sacrifice will be remembered as a shining example of bravery and selflessness,” he said.
He also promised to help rebuild the family’s dilapidated house, reaffirming the government’s commitment to stand by them during this difficult time.
