Chandigarh, Apr 16: The Punjab Congress staged a strong protest on Wednesday against the Enforcement Directorate’s chargesheet filed in the National Herald money laundering case, which names Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and other Congress leaders.

Led by state unit President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, hundreds of Congress workers gathered at the Punjab Congress Bhawan before marching to the ED office in Sector 9. The protesters carried placards and raised slogans against the Modi government, denouncing the charges as politically motivated.

Warring accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of attempting to create a false narrative against the Gandhi family. "PM Modi is feeling insecure and trying to target the Gandhis with a fake perception of corruption. Even he knows that the case has no legal basis and will not stand in court," Warring stated.

The charge sheet also named Congress leaders Sam Pitroda and Suman Dubey as accused. Warring pointed out that PM Modi had failed to find any wrongdoing during the UPA government’s tenure, and the National Herald issue was just a means to malign the Gandhi family.

"Where is the money that was allegedly laundered, as PM Modi claims?" he questioned, adding that the attempt to tarnish the Gandhis' reputation was bound to fail.

Warring also took a swipe at PM Modi, suggesting that his actions were driven by jealousy of the Gandhis' long history of sacrifice for the country. "Now, he is trying to damage their image," he added.

Earlier this month, the Enforcement Directorate had announced plans to seize assets worth ?661 crore linked to the case, involving the Congress-controlled Associated Journals Limited (AJL), in which Rahul and Sonia Gandhi hold significant shares.
