Congress slams Nitish; Rahul launches job yatra in Bihar

Patna, Apr 7: Congress spokesperson Jyoti Kumar Singh on Monday accused Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of falling prey to a ‘BJP conspiracy’ by supporting the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, alleging that the saffron party was planning a political shake-up in Bihar similar to the one executed in Maharashtra.

"BJP has secured Nitish Kumar’s consent on the Waqf Bill as part of a larger conspiracy. Despite his baseless remarks, BJP remains silent because they intend to repeat their Maharashtra model remove the current CM and install one of their own," Singh told.

He contrasted this with Rahul Gandhi's leadership, stating that the Congress leader is actively working to raise awareness among the people and ensure inclusive development across sectors.

Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, is currently visiting Bihar as part of his ‘Palayan Roko, Naukri Do’ padyatra, aimed at addressing the pressing issues of unemployment and mass migration from the state.

On Monday, Gandhi arrived in Begusarai, where he walked with the youth to highlight their struggle and amplify their demand for employment opportunities. The padyatra is part of Congress' ongoing grassroots outreach in view of the upcoming Bihar assembly elections.

Speaking about Gandhi’s initiative, Singh said, “Rahulji is committed to empowering the economically weaker sections of society. His Bihar visits will continue, with the goal of educating people about what has been denied to them.”

According to the Congress party, Rahul Gandhi landed at Patna airport at 9:50 am, reached Begusarai by 10:10 am, and after participating in the padyatra, returned to Patna by 1:00 pm.

Later in the day, Gandhi addressed the Samvidhan Suraksha Sammelan at Sri Krishna Memorial Hall and held a strategy meeting with party leaders at Sadakat Ashram. He is scheduled to return to Delhi in the evening.

During his visit, the Congress MP interacted with local communities and youth, discussing their challenges and reaffirming the party’s commitment to fighting for their rights.

On Sunday, Gandhi had urged Bihar’s youth to join the yatra, sharing a message on social media:

“Young friends of Bihar, I am coming to Begusarai on April 7 to walk shoulder to shoulder with you. Let’s make the world aware of your pain, your struggle.”

He also encouraged youth to join the white T-shirt movement, aimed at putting pressure on the government and demanding action on job creation.

The Congress party is expected to play a crucial role in the opposition alliance ahead of the Bihar assembly polls.
