Udupi, Apr 5: "A technical committee comprising national highway officials, revenue officers, and Public Works Department (PWD) engineers has been formed to review the feasibility of a flyover or underpass at Brahmavar," said deputy commissioner (DC) Dr K Vidyakumari.
Speaking to Daijiworld.com on April 5, Dr Vidyakumari said, "A sorrowful incident took place in Brahmavar, where a 13-year-old boy, Vansh S Shetty, tragically lost his life in an accident on the national highway. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of the highway, which is prone to frequent accidents due to high-speed vehicle movement. A technical committee has been constituted to inspect the site and determine whether a flyover or underpass would be the most feasible solution to prevent such accidents in the future."

She further added, "A report is expected by Monday, April 7, which will aid the decision-making process. Based on the feasibility check, a formal appeal will be submitted to the government for the construction of the necessary infrastructure. Additionally, a temporary service road has been constructed near SMS College by filling the land with red soil, as per earlier directives. Further plans for constructing a permanent service road are also in place, with instructions to expedite the process."
"A meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday with National Highway officials, the Grama Panchayat president, and other relevant authorities to discuss ongoing issues on the National Highway stretch and explore further solutions," said Dr Vidyakumari.
Regarding the progress of the Indrali railway bridge, she said, "The construction work is underway. I recently conducted a site inspection along with the Superintendent of Police and directed the workers to speed up the process. The project involves intensive labour and aluminium work and is expected to be completed by the end of April. Currently, the setting up of girders is in progress, and the railway department is expected to conduct a final inspection within a week. Following this, the bridge is anticipated to be placed."
