New Delhi, Mar 31: A devastating fire triggered by an LPG cylinder explosion claimed the lives of two children and injured one person in Delhi’s Manohar Park area on Sunday night.

The incident occurred around 8:20 pm near Ashok Park Metro Station in Wazirpur. Firefighters responded swiftly, dispatching two fire tenders to the scene. Despite their efforts, three people suffered severe burns.

The victims, 12-year-old Sakshi and 9-year-old Akash, were rushed to Acharya Bhikshu Hospital, where doctors declared them dead due to 100 per cent burns. Their mother, Savita, recounted that the fire ignited when hanging clothes caught fire while she was cooking. Though she and her daughter Meenakshi managed to escape, Sakshi and Akash were trapped inside.

The landlord's son and other tenants pulled the children out, but their injuries were fatal. Another victim, Sandeep Pathak, sustained minor burns and is receiving treatment.

Authorities suspect the fire resulted from an LPG cylinder blast inside the house, with further investigations underway.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a fire broke out at Makkar Multi-Specialty Hospital in Laxmi Nagar on the same night. The blaze affected beds and AC units on the ground floor, but firefighters swiftly controlled the situation. No casualties were reported.
