Udupi, Mar 8: A shocking case of assault and abduction over a financial dispute has been reported in Kaup police station. The complaint, Sunita (48), a resident of Indrali, Udupi, stated that her husband, Deepak, runs a business named Kamadhenu Enterprises in Karnad, Mulki.
According to the complaint, Deepak had taken batteries on credit for his business from three shops namely, Satellite Power System, Udupi, Salis Power System, Karkala and Durga Power System, Karkala
To settle the payments, he had issued bank cheques from his company. However, due to a delay in payment, the owners of the three shops allegedly conspired and, on March 5, at around 2:30 pm, a group of 5-6 people confronted Deepak near Image Mall in Udyavara village, Udupi Taluk.

They allegedly stopped him, forcibly took away his mobile phone, his Dio scooter (KA-20-HB-4078), and a blue bag containing three cheque books. Additionally, they physically assaulted him by hitting him with a helmet and slapping him. They then forcibly put him into a car belonging to one Roshan Salins and took him to Sasthan Kodi Beach.
During the journey, the assailants continued to assault Deepak. Upon reaching the beach, they reportedly beat him severely with iron rods and wooden sticks, targeting his legs, arms, shoulders, and back. They then forced him to write on a white paper as per their instructions, removed his shirt, and continued to beat him while recording the assault on his mobile phone.
Later, the accused took him to Royal Inn Veg Hotel in Brahmavar, where they gave him tea and snacks. Following this, they abandoned him on the road behind his house. Upon learning about the incident, the complainant rushed to help Deepak and admitted him to the hospital.
Based on the complaint, Kaup police have registered a case.
