Indore, Mar 8: The 16th finance commission of India, led by chairperson Arvind Pangariya, engaged with industry and trade representatives in Indore on Friday to evaluate Madhya Pradesh’s financial requirements.
During the meeting at Export Bhawan in the Pithampur industrial area, industrial bodies proposed key initiatives, including the establishment of an air cargo hub, skill development centres for women's empowerment, data centres, and multimodal logistics parks.

Representatives emphasized the need for greater Central support, citing Madhya Pradesh’s tribal and forested landscape, and advocated for increased investments in agriculture and healthcare.
Dhar District collector Priyank Mishra provided insights into the region’s industrial potential, highlighting government initiatives for economic growth.
Prior to this, the commission held discussions with rural and urban bodies, the state cabinet, and political representatives in Bhopal since March 5.
Pangariya clarified that the commission’s role is to engage with states to assess their financial needs and make recommendations to the Centre for tax devolution. “No decision has been taken yet; the Madhya Pradesh government’s demands will be presented before the Centre,” he stated after meeting with state officials.
