Bengaluru, Feb 19: A woman in Bengaluru has been booked for allegedly seeking a medical prescription to kill her mother-in-law. The case was registered after the doctor she approached filed a police complaint.
Dr Sunil Kumar Hebbi, who lodged the complaint at Sanjaynagar police station, said he received a WhatsApp message on February 17 at 2 pm. “The person on the other end said ‘hi,’ and I responded. When I asked who they were, they requested that I communicate in Kannada, so I sent a message in Kannada,” he said.

The woman introduced herself as Sahana and said she was from Bengaluru. “When I inquired about her health concerns, she said she wanted to confide in me and asked if I would scold her for what she was about to say,” Dr Hebbi stated.
As he assured her she could share her thoughts, she allegedly asked him to prescribe two tablets that could kill her mother-in-law.
“I told her this was unethical and something we do not engage in. As doctors, our duty is to save lives, not take them. I also pointed out that it was wrong of her to obtain my number from social media and misuse it,” he said.
Despite his refusal, the woman allegedly kept pleading with him to send the names of the tablets. Disturbed by the repeated messages, Dr Hebbi approached the police that afternoon and filed a complaint.
“The police assured swift action, but as of now, no steps have been taken. We have to wait and see what action will follow,” he said.
Dr Hebbi also noted that the woman’s WhatsApp display picture was not visible. “I am involved in social activism, and whenever I take up causes against corruption, I face opposition. I am concerned this could have been an attempt to trap me,” he claimed.
Asked if he knew the woman, he said, “She is not familiar to me. She got my number from an Instagram post and contacted me. There is no prior connection between us. Our conversation lasted about five minutes.”
He added that she later called him again, apologizing and pleading with him not to report her. “When I asked why she wanted to commit such an act, she claimed that her mother-in-law had been harassing her and that she could no longer endure the torture,” he said.
Dr Hebbi, who is active on social media, creates videos on health and social issues. He had also contested the Karnataka Assembly elections from Vijayapura. “I have been targeted for my activism, and I don’t know if this was an attempt to trap me,” he remarked.
He said the police had informed him that efforts were underway to track and trace the accused.
