Minor among four arrested in Kapurthala petrol pump robbery, murder case

Kapurthala, Feb 12: In a swift breakthrough, Kapurthala police on Monday arrested four individuals, including a minor, in connection with the robbery and murder that took place at a petrol pump in Kheeranwali on February 1. One of the accused was previously out on bail in another robbery case.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Toora, the incident occurred around 9:15 pm when three unidentified assailants arrived on a motorcycle. After snatching cash from a petrol pump employee, one of them opened fire, fatally shooting Kulwant Singh, a resident of Bhavnoor, Bhambotar in Hoshiarpur, who was on duty at the time. The attackers fled with Rs 7,500.

Following the incident, an FIR was registered on February 2 under Sections 103(1), 109, 311, and 3(5) of the BNS, along with Section 25 of the Arms Act, at Fattudinga police station. Taking swift action, SSP Toora assigned special investigation teams led by SP (Investigation) Sarabjit Rai, DSP (Detective) Parminder Singh, and DSP (Sultanpur Lodhi) Gurmeet Singh. The probe teams also included Inspector Jarnail Singh (CIA, Kapurthala), Inspector Sonamdeep Kaur (SHO, Fattudinga), and ASI Charanjit Singh (Technical Cell, Kapurthala).

The arrested individuals were identified as Arjan Singh alias Gopi of Mander Bet, Dhilwan; Rohit of Nurpur Lubana, Dhilwan; Tajbir Singh alias Tirath of Mansurwal Bet, Dhilwan; and a minor. Police recovered two motorcycles, a hockey stick, and a sickle used in the crime.

During interrogation, the accused confessed that the crime was committed solely for robbery. Investigators also found that Arjan Singh, alias Gopi, had a prior case registered against him at Kapurthala police station and had been released on bail on January 11.
