Chikmagalur: Gracias Veigas Receives ‘Shikshana Ratna Rastriya Bhavaikyata Prashasti’

Chikmagalur, Jan 11: 59-year-old Gracias Veigas, teacher, St Thomas Higher Primary School, Kavalapadoor, near Vogga in Bantwal taluk, was conferred with the ‘Shikshana Ratna Rastriya Bhavaikyata Prashasti’, for her extraordinary service of 42 years in the education sphere during the Vishwakarma Convention held at Kuvempu Ranga Mantap on Sunday January 8.
Chikmagalur MLA C T Ravi conferred the Prashasti on Veigas in the presence of chief minister D V Sadanand Gowda and transport minister C R Ashok on Sunday morning.
Veigas is the sole teacher from Dakshina Kannada district employed in a school governed by Catholic Board of Education (CBE) to be conferred with the Prashasti.
She began her teaching career at St Ann’s Primary School, Siddapur, and has served at St Jacob’s School in Farla, Bantwal taluk, Guardian Angel School in Beltangady taluk and St Antony School, Gardady in Madantyar. She is due to retire from service in March 2012.
