Mangalore, Jan 9: "At a time when BJP is trying to divide the society, Congress is committed to protecting the constitution of the nation by safeguarding rights such as freedom of speech, religion among others, and the party also assures all protection to the people belonging to the minority communities," said AICC general secretary Madhusudhan Mistry.
He was addressing the review meeting of Congress party workers at Shanthi Kirana hall, Bajjodi here on Monday January 9.
"Congress was founded by the great leaders of the nation. Karnataka was known to be the one of the best states in the country, but after BJP took charge in the state it proved that it can go to any extent even at the cost of farmers. With BJP administration only a few industrialists have benefited. Congress wants power not for its own benefit, but for implementing secular ideals in the society," he added.
Addressing the party workers, Congress general secretary B K Hariprasad called upon them to be prepared for the by-election for Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency. He added that the people need to be reminded of the secular ideology of the party at the grassroots.
About Sindhagi incident, he urged the Government to hand over the investigation to national investigative agency (NIA). From Padmapriya incident till Made Snana row, BJP has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. He admitted that if Congress is made strong in the DK district, the party will be strong all over the state, a fact that has been proved over a period of time, he said.
Former minister B Janardhan Poojary said that there is Chikmagalur Lok Sabha by-election ahead, which once upon a time had given power to Indira Gandhi. "Thus every Congress party worker and leader has the responsibility of winning it," he added.
KPCC president Dr G Parameshwar in his address said that at times there was negligence shown towards the party workers at the grassroots, which had cost the party. Hence, the party workers' meet is being held in every district and block level to make sure their interests are not sidelined. "Meetings will be held with party workers in Udupi, Uttara Kannada and Shimoga districts in the coming days," he informed.
Congress leaders B A Moideen, Oscar Fernandes, MLAs B Ramanath Rai, Abhayachandra Jain, U T Khader, KPCC secretary Ivan D’Souza among others were present. A good number of party workers were also present.
