New Delhi, Jan 20: Union minister for Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilizers, J P Nadda, inaugurated several major projects at the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET) in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Among the inaugurated projects are the state-of-the-art Calibration Laboratory at CIPET Ahmedabad, the Centre for Skilling and Technical Support and Plastic Waste Management Centre at Bhagalpur, and a boys’ hostel at CIPET Madurai. The event was held at CIPET Ahmedabad and witnessed the presence of senior officials from the ministry, industry leaders, students, and faculty members. Attendees from CIPET Bhagalpur and Madurai joined the event virtually.
Highlighting CIPET’s contributions, the union minister lauded the institute for its role in driving innovation and technical advancements in the petrochemical sector. He emphasized the importance of balancing skill, speed, and scale for the industry's future growth and encouraged CIPET to align with government initiatives like Startup India and Standup India.
“The faculty and students of CIPET are crucial contributors to India’s journey toward becoming a $5 trillion economy. The government is committed to providing policy support to help achieve this vision,” Nadda said. He urged the institute to enhance collaboration with industry leaders to strengthen academia-industry ties, ensuring skill upgradation and creating more opportunities for students.
Key projects inaugurated
Calibration laboratory at CIPET Ahmedabad:
• Built at a cost of Rs 1.43 cr, with primary funding from the Gujarat government.
• Equipped with advanced instruments, the laboratory focuses on precision calibration for critical industrial parameters, ensuring operational efficiency.
Centre for skilling and technical support at Bhagalpur:
• Established at Rs 40.10 cr, co-funded by the Central and Bihar governments.
• Offers diploma courses in Plastics Technology and Plastics Mould Technology, alongside skill development programs in injection moulding and plastic processing.
Plastic waste management centre at Bhagalpur:
• Aims to promote eco-friendly recycling techniques and effective waste management solutions.
• Focuses on creating awareness, supporting start-ups, and facilitating innovative recycling practices.
Boys’ hostel at CIPET Madurai:
• Constructed at Rs 6.40 cr, funded by the central government.
• Can accommodate 120 students, increasing the institute’s training capacity.
The minister praised CIPET for being a self-reliant institution and expressed confidence that the new projects would contribute significantly to the nation’s economy.
