Mangaluru, Dec 13: In a significant operation aimed at making “Drugs-Free Mangaluru” a reality, the Mangaluru CCB police apprehended a man involved in transporting and selling banned narcotic substances. The operation led to the seizure of 6.7 kg of ganja.
Based on credible information, the CCB police conducted a raid in the Mulki Bappanadu area. The accused had allegedly procured the banned substance from Mumbai, Maharashtra, and was selling it to the public and students in the Mulki region.
The arrested individual has been identified as Akhilesh Shetty (30) a resident of Seethanilaya, Kunjagudde House, Ambalpadi Post, Ambalpadi, Udupi. The police recovered 6.7 kg of ganja worth Rs 1,62,000, along with a mobile phone and Rs 660 in cash. The total value of the seized items is estimated at Rs 1,63,000. A case has been registered at the Mulki police station.
Investigations revealed that the accused had been purchasing ganja from Mumbai and traveling to Mangaluru by train with the intent of selling it to the public and students to earn illegal profits. The accused was reportedly engaged in the drug trade to fund a luxurious lifestyle.
Akhilesh has a criminal history, with six cases registered against him. These include theft cases at the Mangaluru East police station, drug-related cases at Malpe police station in Udupi district, assault cases at Hiriyadka police station, and narcotic substance consumption cases at Udupi CEN Crime police station.
The operation was carried out under the leadership of CCB ACP Manoj Kumar Naik, with the support of inspectors Shyam Sundar HM, PSI Sudeep MV, ASIs Ram Poojary and Sheenappa, and other CCB personnel.
