Lagos: Tulu Koota Nigeria celebrates 25th anniversary in grand style

Lagos (Nigeria), Dec 12: Tuluvas residing in Nigeria made history on December 8 at the Cilatron Hotel when nearly 150 members of the Tulu-speaking community from Coastal Karnataka, India, gathered to celebrate the 25th glorious anniversary of Tulu Koota. This association, uniquely operating without a president, secretary, or any office-bearer positions, has been successfully united under collective leadership for 25 years.

Tulu Koota was founded in 2000 by Sundar Kotian, Ramappa Poojary, Ajith Chowta, and Sadananda Melanta. Over the years, its membership has steadily increased. On Saturday, December 7, the association organized a unique event to mark this milestone.

















The celebrations featured special guests from Mangaluru - Walter Nandalike and Aravind Bolar, the duo famous for the popular Tulu comedy TV series ‘Private Challenge’. They were given a warm welcome in traditional Nigerian style, followed by a ceremonial Tulunadu welcome led by women from the Tulu-speaking community.

Other distinguished guests included Mahesh Narasimhan, representing the High Commission of India to Nigeria, and Sivakumar Velappan, president of the Indian Cultural Association. The programme commenced with a welcome note by the emcee, followed by the lighting of the lamp and a prayer. The 25th-anniversary logo was officially unveiled by the guests.

A video presentation showcased Tulu Koota’s inspiring 25-year journey. Senior members who had significantly contributed to the association's success were felicitated. Walter Nandalike and Aravind Bolar were honoured with a shawl, peta, mementos, and fruits by the organizers. Jayaprakash Rao, senior member of Tulu Koota introduced guests to the audience.

The entertainment segment of the evening included brilliant dance performances, songs, comedy skits, and acts by both senior and junior members of Tulu Koota. Adding to the excitement, the Nandalike-Bolar duo performed two live mini-episodes of Private Challenge, causing waves of laughter among the audience.

Tulu Koota members performed Karoke singing, The High Commission guests Mahesh Narasimhan rendered two Hindi songs which was appreciated by the audience.

Tulu Koota members also presented a short drama based on the popular Tulu play ‘Pudar Dituji’, which was well-received by attendees. Walter Nandalike and Aravind Bolar expressed their gratitude for the warm hospitality and praised the professional organization of the event.

The programme, which began late in the evening, continued until the early hours of Sunday. The event was beautifully compered by Dishan Pai and Seema Salian.

    Thankyou Walter Nandalike and Aravind Bolar Sir for obliging our request to visit Lagos and be part of the 25th year Tulukoota celebration. Inspite of your celebrity status in society , you both gentlemen exhibit highest level of humility and humbleness. Will be eager to watch your Private Challenge show which you did in Lagos. Am sure it will have a touch of local Nigerian content. Wish you many more such successful visits and bring glory to our Kudla.
