Tumakuru, Dec 4: A Bajrang Dal activist who went into hiding in a remote village in Uttarakhand after posting derogatory and defamatory videos against the Karnataka chief minister, deputy chief minister, home minister, and over 15 other ministers on Facebook, Instagram, and X, has been arrested by a team led by Koratagere PSI Chetangowda.
The activist, identified as Mohith Narasimhamurthy, allegedly created a 1-2 minute video using abusive language targeting CM Siddaramaiah, DCM D K Shivakumar, home minister Dr G Parameshwara, housing minister Zameer Ahmed, and energy minister K J George, among others. Following a complaint by the block Congress president, a case was registered at the Koratagere police station, accusing the activist of tarnishing the government’s reputation.
Mohith Narasimhamurthy, a former worker of the Vishva Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal in Tumakuru, was arrested from a tea shop where he was working in Ukhimath, Rudraprayag district, Uttarakhand. A special team of five officers, including Tumakuru SP Ashok Venkat, CB branch CPI Avinash, Sira rural CPI Raghavendra, and Koratagere PSI Chetangowda, led the operation that apprehended the accused.
Cases filed in 10 districts
Over 15 cases have been registered against Mohith in 10 districts, including Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Tumakuru, Koratagere, Mysuru, Kalaburagi, Shivamogga, Belagavi, Koppal, and Raichur. Twelve of these cases fall under the Indian Penal Code for offenses against the state and public security, while three cases of fraud were registered for allegedly luring devotees in Karnataka with a fraudulent Char Dham pilgrimage scheme.
Political background
Hailing from Nallur in Dabaspet taluk, Mohith is the son of the late Narasimhamurthy. He contested as an independent candidate in the 2024-25 Lok Sabha elections from the Chikkaballapur constituency under the "Flute" symbol but faced a significant defeat. Currently associated with a private organization in Uttarakhand, he was reportedly engaged in promotional activities.
Block Congress president Arakere Shankar stated, “Mohith created a defamatory video against over 15 ministers, including the CM, DCM, and home minister, using abusive language and degrading the government's image. Upon my complaint, Koratagere police promptly registered a case and arrested him.”
Tumakuru SP Ashok Venkat, ASP Mariyappa, and Madhugiri DySP Ramachandrappa have since visited Koratagere to oversee the ongoing investigation. Mohith has been remanded to judicial custody by the police team led by Koratagere CPI Anil and PSI Chetangowda.
