Udupi: Thief Arrested in 15 Hours!

Udupi, Dec 6: The police of the district have succeeded in nabbing an accused involved with a theft that occurred on the night of Saturday December 3, within 15 hours from the time a complaint was lodged. The case pertains to Kelarkalabettu within Malpe police station limits.

Ramdas Nayak from Kelarkalabettu had left for Mangalore on November 3 to attend a marriage there, after locking his house. On his return on the evening of November 4, he found that 23 grams of gold ornaments and cash amounting to Rs 2.5 lac had gone missing from his home. He immediately lodged a complaint.

District superintendent of police, Y S Ravikumar, and deputy superintendent of police, Jayant Shetty, visited the spot and collected details. The district crime intelligence bureau personnel, led by Jayant Shetty, in a swift operation, succeeded in finding out the thief and arresting him within 15 hours.

The arrested is Jagadish Achary (34) from Kodavoor Shantinagar.

During interrogation, Jagadish reportedly told the police that he had placed the stolen items in a plastic bag and come to the local bus stand to go to Nitte. He said he slumped to sleep at the bus stand, and found that the bag containing valuables had gone missing when he woke up. The police have confiscated a pair of earrings from his shirt pocket. The rest of the items are yet to be traced.

Investigating officer, S V Girish, and sub-inspector, Sampat Kumar, had led the investigation team.
