Udupi: Two cars fall into roadside drain near Ishwar Nagar pumphouse

Udupi, Oct 28: Multiple accidents have been reported near the city municipality pump house at Ishwar Nagar due to the unscientific design of the highway. On Sunday, two cars fell into a roadside drain—one in the morning and the other in the evening.

In the morning, a car carrying tourists from Udupi to Kudremukh fell into the drain. Later in the evening, a vehicle carrying a Tulu stage and movie artiste, along with co-artistes on their way to perform the play ‘Yerla Guarantee Atth’ at Hirebettu, met the same fate. Fortunately, all occupants escaped without injuries.

It may be recalled, a speeding car crashed into the pump house a couple of months ago. Fortunately, the staff member sleeping inside the pump house at the time miraculously escaped unharmed then.

There is inadequate signage directing vehicles to use either the old road or the new one, and the pump house lacks a sufficient protective barrier. With residential homes nearby, locals are calling for the construction of safety fences around the area to prevent further accidents.
