Doha: MCC Qatar organises Carrom & Ludo tournament 2024

Doha, Oct 26: The MCC Qatar inaugural Carrom & Ludo tournament, held on October 25 at Les Roses 3 Club House witnessed an exciting day of competition as 24 teams each gathered to showcase their skills in carrom and ludo.

The event opened with a prayer by joint cultural secretary Glen Rohan D’Sa, followed by a warm welcome speech from MCC Qatar president Naveen D’Souza, who highlighted the organisation's mission of fostering cultural and recreational engagement.

Vinitha D’Souza, who served as the MC guided the day’s proceedings. The tournament inauguration, a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony, was led by Jerald Dmello, a founding member and advisor, and president Naveen D’Souza, with sports secretary Melwin Pinto also present on the dais.

The event began with a prayer led by joint cultural secretary Glen Rohan D’Sa, followed by a welcome speech from MCC Qatar president Naveen D’Souza, who emphasised the organisation’s mission to create cultural and recreational opportunities for the members. The tournament was officially inaugurated by Jerald Dmello, a founder member and advisor, alongside president Naveen Dsouza.

During the opening ceremony, carrom referee Khaleel Khan was honoured with a token of appreciation by Jerald Dmello for his commitment and contributions to the game. Khaleel Khan then provided participants with a detailed briefing on carrom rules, while general secretary Renzil D’Souza explained the guidelines for the ludo games. These briefings set the stage for fair and exciting matches.

After an afternoon of intense and skillful matches, Stanly D’Souza and Joyster Crasta claimed victory in the carrom category, with Rolin Monteiro and Sachin Monteiro as runners-up. In the ludo tournament, Sanvia D’Souza and Reona Vas emerged as champions, while Niven Noronha and Kiaan Noronha earned the runners-up position. The winners and runners-up were celebrated in a prize distribution ceremony led by advisor Riana Pinto, president Naveen D’Souza, and vice-president Shameen Lewis, who presented trophies and awards to acknowledge their achievements.

The day concluded with heartfelt thanks from MCC Qatar to all participants and volunteers. The tournament not only showcased impressive talent but also MCC Qatar’s commitment to fostering unity and cultural pride within the community.
