Mangalore, Dec 3: John Paul D’Souza (47), a resident of Harekala village near Ullal here, died on Friday December 2 in a freak accident. He breathed his last due to excessive bleeding, after his leg got stuck in the tiller that was being used to till his field at Kottary Kudru near the bank of River Netravati at Pavoor in Harekala village.
He is survived by parents, wife, and three children. He owned a boat which he used to ferry people across the river.
John was using the tiller to plough his field, when the machine got partially buried in the soil. When he was trying to life and move the tiller from its position, his leg got stuck in the blade of the tiller. As his efforts to wriggle himself free from the machine failed, he raised an alarm, upon which, his wife, Sunita D’Souza, came running. Her efforts too failed to help her husband to come out of the situation.
The place is secluded, and there was no one at home in a few houses located in the vicinity. People came from Pavoor long time thereafter, to help him. During the intervening three hours period, John continued to bleed. Efforts were made to shift the seriously injured John to a hospital, but reportedly, he died before he could be treated, due to excessive bleeding.
