Mangaluru: International Music Day celebrated through Sangeet Sandhi at Kalaangann

Mangaluru, Oct 8: The romance between the rain outside and the melodious singing inside the Kalaangann’s hall was backed by the rhythmic thunders and lightning, added extra charm to Sumell’s Musical Nite. The International Music Day was grandly celebrated through Sangeet Sandhi on October 6.

As many as 46 singers singing enchantingly in Konkani, Tulu, English, Hindi, Malayalam, Manipuri, Sinhalese and Spanish, a total of 8 languages, filled the souls of the audience with a melodic resonance. Music was sent flowing through the veins by the musical brilliance of Roshan Bela, Sanjay Rodrigues, Sanjeet Rodrigues and Stalin D’Souza, taking the minds on a euphoric journey.

The 274th monthly theatre of Mandd Sobhann was set in motion by musician Roshan Crasta Bela by ringing the bell. As per the tradition of Sumell’s International Music Day celebration, Niranjan Sunil Kumar – a proficient violinist and music teacher, was conferred with International Music Day award, during the programme. Sumell co-ordinator Raina Sequeira welcomed the gathering. Mandd Sobhann treasurer Alron Rodrigues read the Citation. Mandd Sobhann Gurkar Eric Ozario, president Louis Pinto and Sumell treasurer Clara Pinto did the honouring, presenting shawl, garland, fruits, memento and citation. With a heart full of emotions, Sunil Kumar spoke his heartfelt feeling and thanked everyone.

Anil D'Cunha, Ajay D’Souza Taccode, Dr Zeena Mendonca, Ashline Vismaya Lobo compered the stage programme while Lavina Danti compeered the formal programme. Irene Rebello handled the announcements.

Established in 2015, Sumell – the singing club of Mandd Sobhann, practices vocals in 4 voices and performs at various events. At present, nearly 60 music enthusiasts, from Byndoor till Bantwal, gather every 3rd Sunday at Kalaangann to practice and better their skills under the leadership of Raina Sequeira.
