Bantwal: Scooter rider succumbs to injuries following two-wheeler collision

Bantwal, Oct 4: A scooter rider who was seriously injured in a collision between two two-wheelers on the Melkar-Mudipu state highway in Marnabailu, Sajipa Munnur village, has succumbed to his injuries. The accident occurred on Wednesday, October 2, and the rider passed away in the hospital on Thursday, October 3.

The deceased has been identified as Sarfaz (33), a resident of Barimaru. His pillion rider, an 18-year-old student named Jasmine, was also injured in the accident and is currently receiving treatment in the hospital.

Sarfaz was taking his sister, Jasmine, to her college in Deralakatte on his scooter when they reached Marnabailu via Melkar-Mudipu road. At that point, a bike, reportedly driven recklessly by one Imtiyaz, collided with their vehicle head-on. Due to the force of the impact, both Sarfaz and Jasmine were thrown off the scooter, suffering serious injuries.

They were immediately rushed to a private hospital in Mangaluru, but despite the efforts of the medical team, Sarfaz succumbed to his injuries on October 3, according to police sources.

Melkar traffic sub-inspector Suthesh visited the accident site to conduct further investigations.

    Its so sad.i Think half of our mangalorean citizens will be reduced due to road accidents ,whoever the cause is.Too many vehicles on road and not following road rules .Fast driving and wrong sides etc.May his soul rest in peace .Heartfelt sympathy to the family.

    If you see our roads and the damaged asphalt with dangerous pits which cause more accidents while avoiding them. I wonder why we are taxed heavily without providing proper roads and most of the times victims get fined even though the injured reckless driving caused the accidents without wearing helmets. On Mangalore roads you can see scooters driven by youngsters overtaking bikes driven at 65Kms, should they crash against any vehicle they get the blame. Minors drive them and those who have licence give statement claiming they were riding the vehicle but have minor abrasions but the minor is claimed to be a pillion rider but with serious facial and dental injuries indicating they are driving it without proper helmets, but sadly courts take police statement provided by the plaintiffs as truth and accused agree to end the case in a single day instead contesting and dragging it for many months.

    Most of the times 2 wheeler riders don't wear proper helmets which results in serious injuries to the head which prove to be fatal. But the opposite rider will have to bear the consequences and unless proper trial takes place is presumed to be guilty until proven not guilty. I suggest take statements from both sides before accusing one to be guilty of rash driving.

    All hell breaks loose on the dreaded draconian Mangalore roads with absolutely no decorum. Every vehicle owner thinks it is their father's road and drives per their whims and fancies. In the process, innocent drivers driving cautiously often become fatal victims. There is lack of civic sense in our country despite creating awareness.
