Media Release

Dubai, Sep 27: Jocelyn Mascarenhas was a name etched in the hearts of those who came to Dubai in the early 70s, a man of boundless talents and a soul deeply connected to his roots. A gifted violinist, singer, dramatist, and orator, he graced every stage he stepped onto.

His wisdom and natural leadership earned him deep respect within the Konkani community, culminating in his election as the first president of Mangaluru Konkans Dubai in October 1988. As a founding member of this esteemed association, he served two terms with unwavering dedication. A man of integrity and discipline, Jocelyn was equally known for his sharp wit and joyous spirit.

Born on the September 22, 1944, Jocelyn lived a life filled with purpose. His contributions to the Konkani community were invaluable, leaving a legacy of progress and unity. Though his final years were marked by ill health, God blessed him with the grace of long life 80 years filled with love and service. He breathed his last on the September 27, leaving behind cherished memories in the hearts of his family, friends, and well-wishers.

A true gentleman in every sense, Jocelyn’s life reflected education, dignity, and honour. He was among the early pioneers from Mangaluru to the UAE, where he held a senior role at Shell Markets for over two decades. His strength, both in his youth and later years, was in his devotion to family and community. His greatest joy was found in the company of his beloved wife and children, cherishing the simple but profound pleasures of family life an accomplishment few are fortunate to fully embrace.

Throughout his life, many sought his counsel in times of trouble, knowing that his words, steeped in wisdom and experience, would bring comfort and clarity. His presence was magnetic; to meet Jocelyn once was to feel an undeniable urge to meet him again, as he had a way of leaving a lasting impression on all who crossed his path. Now, only the beautiful memories of him remain, as Jocelyn is no longer with us.

Jocelyn leaves behind his devoted wife, Genevieve Mascarenhas, who stood by him through every season of life, his loving daughters Vanessa and Gavin, who cared for him with unwavering affection, and his cherished granddaughter, Jaden. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved him, and the world is a little dimmer without his gentle light.

A poem to honour Jocelyn's memory:

A life well-lived, with joy and grace,
A heart that touched each gentle face.
In song and wisdom, you left your mark,
A guiding light when times were dark.
Now you rest in peaceful sleep,
But in our hearts, your love runs deep.
Though you've left, you're not far,
Forever shining like a star.
