Bantwal, Sep 25: A serious accident between a truck and a bike claimed the life of one passenger on Tuesday, September 24, after he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The accident occurred near Maripalla junction, within the jurisdiction of the Farangipete traffic police station, where three people traveling on a bike were severely injured after a collision with a truck.

The injured were rushed to the hospital, but one of the passengers, a student named Sevanth (21), from Sullia, passed away in a private hospital in Mangaluru on Tuesday.

Sevanth, a student at a private college, was returning to Sullia with his friends after spending time at their room following their evening classes. The accident occurred when the group set out for Sullia.

The truck driver, heading from Mangaluru, caused the accident while turning towards Farangipete at Maripalla junction. The bike was being ridden by Chetak, with Yatheesh and Sevanth as pillions. Both the Chetak and Yatheesh are still receiving treatment in the hospital.

A case has been registered at Melkar traffic police station, citing the truck driver’s negligence as the cause of the accident. Traffic sub-inspector Sutesh visited the accident site to assess the situation.

Now a days many youngsters are found triple riding on scooters and bikes on main roads of the city without helmets. I don't know how they escape from the traffic police or why the police turn a blind eye at them. Yesterday I saw three students in uniform from a well known college of Bangra Kulur, crossing the divider travelling on highway and turning towards Kodikal (none of them had helmet) .
