Udupi, Sep 25: The progress on the Indrali railway vehicular bridge, connecting Udupi to Manipal, is ongoing, but serious concerns are emerging regarding safety and staffing levels that may hinder timely completion. With only three months left to finish the project, the current workforce of six is struggling to meet construction demands.

The limited number of workers is slowing down the construction process, which is crucial for meeting the project deadline. Additionally, the absence of proper safety measures is exacerbating an already challenging situation. The bridge construction site is situated on uneven terrain, increasing the risks for workers on-site.

Moreover, the workers do not have adequate shelter to protect them from rain, forcing them to continue fabrication work on wet floors. During inclement weather, workers are seen covering machinery with plastic bags to prevent water damage, highlighting a lack of proper tools and safety equipment. This situation raises serious concerns about worker safety and potential hazards during the construction process.

Despite these pressing issues, it has been reported that only the railway department has visited the site once, and no other representatives from the authorities have been to the site since the work began, leaving workers feeling unsupported and vulnerable. As the deadline approaches, the situation raises questions about the prioritization of safety and adequate staffing in public infrastructure projects.

Local officials have yet to respond to these concerns, leading to calls for immediate action to ensure both the safety and efficiency of ongoing construction efforts.
