Panaji, Nov 19: The Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP), a civic body covering the capital of Goa, has initiated a high level enquiry after Tri-colour national flag was found dumped in the garbage in its backyard.

CCP Mayor Yatin Parekh told reporters that enquiry would be conducted by Commissioner Agnelo Fernandes.

A tri-colour flag was found lying in the garbage dump behind CCP’s main office in the city, which was noticed by group of photo-journalists who had gone there to cover an event.

“When we brought to the notice of the workers, they started abusing us and accused us of planting the flag to create sensation,” one of the photo-journalist told PTI. He said that the matter was immediately brought to the notice of the Mayor, who ordered the enquiry.

Parekh said that `dumping of tri-colour in the garbage heap is a serious offence.’ “We will find out who did it and punish him,” the Mayor said.

Photo Journalists Association of Goa (PJAG), an umbrella organization of photojournalists, has condemned the accusation against its members. “It’s shameful that photo journalists who were disturbed by the insult to national pride were treated like this by CCP workers,” PJAG President Rosario Estebeiro reacted.

He said that the association will follow up the matter till it is taken to logical end by the CCP.
