Jeddah, Nov 19: The United Konkan Christian Association, Jeddah celebrated its 17th anniversary recently in a Villa in north Jeddah.
The group founded by like-minded Mangaloreans as the social and cultural group 17 years ago has now over 50 members who meet once in a week in each others’ house. They share, help and guide its members in all areas of life especially teaching children the right values in their formative years.
The celebration included cultural activities and competitions both for adults and children. The competitions consisted of singing, dancing, throw ball, volley ball and sack race. Quiz by Peter Mascarenhas, Kelmbet, was the main highlight of the day. As the competitions were held group wise, there was intense excitement and fun and every group wanted to outdo the other. Finally the group lead by Princia Mascarenhas, Kelmbet secured the winner's trophy and the groups lead by Sannie Maria Martis Shankar Pura and Rinisha Mascarenhas, also from Kelmbet, secured the runners-up trophies
On this occasion, the founder members of the group Walter Lewis, Sastan Parish, Micheal Crasto, John D'Souza were felicitated by presenting them candles. The UKCA leaders Wilfred D'Souza, Kulshekar, Mangalore welcomed the gathering and extended special thanks to the past members who left the group. Wilfred Menezes, Halvele, read the report highlighting the activities the group carried out during the past year.
The programme was conducted by the multi-talented Roshan Rodrigues, Madanthyar which included orchestra singing by Roshan himself and a host of other singers. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Peter Mascarenhas, Kelmbet who is also the treasurer of the group.
