Panaji: Goa may Get Journalist Protection Law - Kamat

Panaji, Nov 16 (IANS): Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat Wednesday said the state government was open to a comprehensive law to protect journalists and media professionals from violence and attacks.

Speaking at a function organised to mark the National Press Day in Panaji, Kamat said a journalist protection law on the lines of the one being cobbled together in Maharashtra was a possibility in Goa soon.

"We (can) adapt the journalist protection law in Maharshtra in Goa with the required modifications," Kamat said.

"We can sit down with journalists and get the law in place," he added.

The chief minister also called for greater introspection by the media about themselves, especially at a time when it was being accused of invasion of privacy and being overtly biased.
