Udupi, Nov 15: “I have not joined the police force to kill criminals. I was projected as an encounter specialist while pursuing criminals in the course of duty,” said Mumbai police officer Daya Nayak.
He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Ambari–2010’, Jaycees convention of zone 15, consisting of Dakshina Kannada (DK), Udupi, and Uttar Kannada districts, hosted by Jaycees Kaup at Vidhyaniketan Group of Education Institutions’ grounds in Kaup on Sunday November 13.
Nayak expressed his concern over visual media that has been glorifying crimes with devastating effect on young minds.
“When I joined the metropolitan police force, there were 10,000 criminals and half of them hailed from the undivided DK district. This has drastically come down, since many natives of undivided DK in Mumbai are earning their living through hard labour, a shift from criminal activity,” he said.
Jaycees zone 15 president Ashit Kumar presided over the programme.
Jaycees national president Senator Ramesh Bhatia, Jaycees east national vice-president Dabaji Sawant, Vidhyaniketan Group of education institutions correspondent K P Acharya, east zone president Y Sukumar, Padoor SKE and CKCT project manager Jin Mu Lee, ZP president Katpady Shankar Poojary, entrepreneurs Suresh Shetty Gurme and Vinu Vishwanat Shetty Moodbidri were the chief guests on the occasion.
Media award recipient and ‘Prajavani’ Kannada daily sub-editor Dinesh Amin Mattu delivered the keynote address.
The Convention’s zonal co-ordinator Chitra Kumar, zonal officers Deepak Kumar Yerma and Pradeep Kumar Gurme, Jaycees Kaup president Rajendra G K, zonal convention directors Jagdish Acharya and Arun Shetty Padoor, secretary Sudeep Shetty Kalya and others were present on the occasion.
Allen Rohan Vaz, vice-president of Jaycees Kallianpur, was elected the new zonal president during the concluding ceremony held on Sunday evening.
