Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Nov 14: Two students of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal,  lost their lives after a truck  collided with the auto rickshaw they were traveling in, on the night of Saturday November 12. The accident occurred at Malpe. Two persons including the auto rickshaw driver, were injured in the accident.

The ill-fated students, Varun Roy (18) from East Mumbai, and Saurav Kumar Das (18) from New Delhi, were first year students of the engineering college. Their classmate, Archit Narang, suffered injuries in the accident. Ravi from Malpe, whose auto rickshaw was involved in the accident, also suffered injuries.

The three students had come to Malpe beach at around 10 pm on Saturday. After roaming around, they had hired the auto rickshaw driven by Ravi to return to Manipal at midnight. When the auto rickshaw reached the petrol bunk near Elur auditorium in Malpe, a truck coming from the direction of Udupi at great speed swerved to the extreme right and hit the auto rickshaw. Varun Roy and Saurav Kumar Das were critically injured in the accident, while the injuries suffered by the other two were not of grave nature. Emergency ambulance was called, and the above two died in the ambulance before they could be attended to. The injured are being treated at a hospital.

The parents of Saurav arrived on Sunday itself, and took the mortal remains of their son to their place. The parents of Varun Roy also reached the town on Sunday.
