Udupi: National Handloom Day 2024 celebration, saree fair at Rajangana from Aug 1

Udupi, Jul 30: Under the auspices of Paryaya Puttige Math and Sri Krishna Math, a fair of handloom sarees will be held, by Padmashali Weavers' Foundation Udupi, in Rajangana, from August 1 to 11.

The fair is organized in collaboration with Udupi primary weavers' seva cooperation sangha, as part of the National Handloom Day 2024 for the upliftment of handloom sarees.

Rathnakar Indrali, President of Padmashali Weaver Foundation Udupi, addressing the media in the press meet held on July 30, said, “Sri Sungunendra Theertha Swamiji will be inaugurating the exhibition and sale of handloom sarees on August 1 at 9:30 am, in the presence of MLA Yashpal Suvarna.”

Rathnakar detailed about the various activities in the fair and said, “As many as 30 manufacturers and sellers of handloom sarees from various regions of South India will participate in the fair. Udupi handloom world, a subsidiary of Padmashali Weavers' Foundation Udupi, will display and sell premium handloom products in the fair. Various cultural and religious programs will be held as part of the handloom fair. Students of weaver’s community who passed SSLC and PUC examination with top rank will be felicitated. Beauty pageant ‘Tulunad Vaibhav’ will be held.”

“On the occasion, bhajan competitions and during the event, over 30 distinguished couples from Udupi who wear handloom attire will also be honored. Every evening, lectures will be held from August 4 to 10, featuring prominent speakers,” he added. 

Manjunath Manipal and Saroja Yashwant, vice president of Padmashali Weavers' Foundation Udupi, Dr Chandan Shettigar, chairman, Avinash Shettigar Marpalli, secretary, Srinivasa Shettigar, treasurer, Rajakesari Shettigar and others were present in the press meet.
