Kundapur, Nov 3: Bhaskar Shetty, resident of Angadibettu in Nada-Konki near here, was looted by a gang of robbers, who were behaving like a family visiting their shop in Madgaon. He lost 72 grams of gold ornaments, watch, mobile phone etc while travelling by train to Mumbai on October 30.
Bhaskar Shetty, who runs a hotel in Mumbai, had visited his home to celebrate Deepavali. He returned by train on October 30. When the train was moving on Goa section of Konkan Railways, a child who was with two men and a woman, who were travelling in the same compartment like a well-knit family, offered a chocolate to Shetty. Unsuspecting Shetty consumed it and soon become unconscious. After that, he says, a 44 gram gold chain, a 28 gram bracelet, a watch, mobile phone, and other valuables in his possession, were taken away.
Some people, who saw Shetty in semi-conscious state when the train reached Mumbai, admitted him into a hospital nearly. After Shetty gained consciousness, he contacted his friend, Kaltodu Santosh Shetty in Mumbai. Santosh Shetty had also been robbed while moving by train on May 29. He showed the photo of robbers he had taken by using his mobile phone to Bhaskar Shetty, who readily identified them to be the same persons.
Bhaskar Shetty has complained to the police. There is a need for the train passengers to desist from accepting any food or drinks offered by fellow passengers, the railway officials have been reiterating. There is also a need for the personnel of the railways including their pantry staff and railway police to be more vigilant about such robbers, railway passengers feel.
