Udupi, Jul 12: The Udupi district BJP staged a protest against the Congress-led state government for allegedly infringing upon constitutional rights by arresting BJP state president B Y Vijayendra at the BJP district office on July 12.
Uday Kumar Shetty, a BJP leader, addressing the gathering, said, “Chief minister Siddaramaiah stands on tiptoe to stop our protest. They are looting SC/ST funds. BJP has always protested. Lady police officials who use bindis do not get promotions because they follow their culture. BV Vijayendra is the state president of BJP and a leader of many BJP workers. The chief minister must resign, step down from his position, and investigate the issue. The chief minister is a 'Hindu' leader. Congress is a cheater. Congress must apologize to BJP for arresting the BJP leader, or else we will hold a vehement protest.”
Yashpal Suvarna, MLA, said, “Today in Karnataka, there is a situation where the police have to provide protection to thieves. The government must provide protection to people, not to thieves. We know how to protest peacefully and also hold fierce protests. When the NEET issue was raised, the Congress leaders were asking where is the MLA, MP, so now I am asking Congress leaders where they are when the SC Nigama scheme is looted. Rs 185 crore of SC Nigam funds were transferred to various accounts in Hyderabad during the election. They are using government funds and the salaries of government officials for their use. We stand for the welfare of people and provide justice to them.”
Gurme Suresh Shetty, MLA Kaup, said, “Today one Congress leader was arrested in a fraud case, and other Congress leaders will be arrested in the future. Opposition parties have always protested against wrongdoings, and we are doing the same. But they are filing complaints against the people who are protesting. Since Congress came to power, not a single work has been happening in the state.”
Vickyath Shetty, state secretary Yuva Morcha, Lalaji R Mendon, former MLA, Mattar Rathnakar Hegde, former president district BJP, Thingale Vikramarjun Hegde, former president, Vijay Kodavoor, Prithviraj, president Yuva Morcha, and others were present.
