In Loving Memory of Rev. Fr. Valerian Mendonca: With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to a musical legend whose melodies have etched themselves into the souls of countless parishioners. Fr. Valerian's compositions were not just songs; they were heartfelt prayers that resonated deeply within us, transcending church walls and touching our spirits. I first met Fr. Valerian in 1996 at the Jeppu Seminary during an unforgettable evening orchestrated by the late Rev. Fr. Charles Vaz and his Sangeet Abhinay Academy from Mumbai. The harmony of music, singing, and dance left an indelible mark on my father and me. Our paths crossed again on May 25, 2018, during the 25-year Jubilee Celebration of Sacred Heart Church, Yermal, in the Udupi Diocese. Reconnecting with Fr. Valerian made the joyous occasion even more special. Thanks to my dear friend and collegemate, Ms. Sunilla Mathias D’Souza, I was introduced to Fr. Valerian and Fr. Charles Vaz during our final year at St. Agnes College, Mangalore. This introduction led to a bond that grew over the years, with Fr. Valerian and I keeping in touch regularly over WhatsApp. Sharing the same birthdate, December 9, added a unique connection between us. Our last meeting on November 7, 2020, in Kallianpur is a memory I will cherish forever. Fr. Valerian’s joy and warmth were palpable as we discussed his music, my job pursuits, pets, and more. His hospitality was unparalleled; he ensured I enjoyed a delicious meal of fish curry and rice, prepared by his cook, and provided a restful guest room for a noon siesta. Attending Mass offered by Fr. Valerian that evening in the Cathedral was a profoundly spiritual experience. Playing with the parish house pets and capturing our moments together in photos are memories I hold dear. The selfies he took of us and the beautiful pictures of the Grotto, Cathedral, and Altar remain treasured keepsakes (Message 1 of 2)

I have memories of him entertaining us by playing his accordion when I used to be in Kinder Garten at Milagres School Kallianpur in 1981 . Have also known him during my altar boy days , school and college days. He was soft spoken, knowledgeable and a good musician. He was probably only one among a couple of musicians who could play Accordion in those days . I still remember his devotional hymns during the music cassettes era . He had composed an Hindi devotional album with bolly wood singer Kavitha Krishnamurthy . May his soul rest in peace.

I loved you dearly, and will love you Fr. May the loving Lord embrace you wholeheartedly while you entering in his kingdom and grant eternal peace on your soul. UNTIL WE MEET Fr. Adieus tuka. Dear Bp. Lobo, the Priests, Religious and Faithful of the Udupi Diocese, specially of Milagres, Kallianpur. Heartfelt condolences to you and all the family members of the Late Fr Valerian. He went away so suddenly from us. The call was quick and the response was total. A faithful servant of Jesus the Master, Fr Valerian excelled in simplicity and the beatitudes of Jesus our Lord. He was a pastor of the people, loved and supported them. In him we lost a friend and model. May he rest in peace the loving arms of the Lord forever. My association with Fr Valley is ever since we were doing our PUC in St Aloysius College, Mangalore. He wanted to join the Jesuits but for health reasons, he went to St Joseph’s seminary for the Diocese of Mangalore and I continued with the Jesuits. A great asset indeed. His contribution to the Diocese in the field of administration, pastoral care, music and education ministry is immense. He will be always remembered and will be emulated. May God grant him eternal rest Fr Hector D’ Souza SJ, (Thottam, now in Moirang, Manipur)

An Appalling news very hard to digest for me as his Parishioner. My relationship with hiwas from 21St October 1981 on which day he blessed my Engagement with Irene at Kallianpur. Then bond with him increased when ne was appointed as Chaplain to the Ozanam Home for the Aged Kallianpur in 1997to 2004. How reverently he treated the Elderly people sharin wit them their Joys and Sufferings. Now as a Rector of Milagres Cathedral, he eas a True Spiritual Father. He has never hurt anybody's feelings, so cordial, amorous subservient. What a zeal he had towards Mary Mother of God. The innumerable hymns he composed besr testimony to this. From 30th June here at the Cathedral, Nivenato Milar mai in preparation towards Titular Feast on July 9th is being conducted and coincidence Milar Mai took him in her Arms. His will be Cherished memory. Heartfelt Condolences to The Bishop , Diocese and his relatives. May Jesus The Good Shepherd grant unto Father's Soul Eternal Peace.

I'm deeply saddened to hear this news. He played a significant role in my musical journey, always engaging with the youth and generously sharing his knowledge. I will miss his soothing and melodious voice. My heartfelt sympathies and condolences go out to Fr. Valerian's family. May his soul rest in peace.
