Mangaluru: Trippers installed on street light fuse boxes after auto drivers’ electrocution

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jun 29: The electricity supply department of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), following directives from deputy commissioner (DC) Mullai Muhilan, has commenced the installation of trippers on fuse boxes with the cooperation of Mescom within the MCC limits.

The DC ordered the installation of trippers in response to the tragic deaths of two auto drivers who were electrocuted when an electricity cable fell on them behind Rosario School in the city on Wednesday night.

The installation work began on Friday. There are over 1,600 fuse meter boxes within the MCC limits. The installation is expected to be completed within the next four days. These trippers will automatically cut off the electricity supply when an overhead wire gets disconnected. MCC officials have urged the public to report any broken or fallen electricity wires to the concerned authorities.

Their equipment and workmanship is utterly pathetic and may not be adhering to even the lowest standards of any power utility company in the world! All the kin of the innocent victims of such accidental deaths should pool up, and file a multicrore class action suit against this sloppy organization for negligent service by consulting a legal with expertise in such claim process.

All electric lines must be insulated and put in underground ducts like in Ahmedabad, Surat etc. The number of power outages will come down drastically, no electric shocks from falling overhead lines ,no disruptions due to branches of trees falling on lines...

I hope the DC is not striken by blindness. Just see the state of the meter box in the photo. We public have installed new boxes in some places. There is no on/off switch for the line. A loose wire is bent and connected to switch on/offvthe line. Even a lineman was approached to have it newly putup by our cost. That too was not done.

Very poor record of safety standards .. I sometime see linemen handle certain electrical pole switches with bare feet .. Awful attitude ..must say ..Its because our priorities are unscientific and illogical beliefs

Their own linemen are dying by electric shocks during maintenance work; most shocking is they even don't bother to cut off the supply and work on live wires; you can see such sort of callous and extremely dangerous activity only in third world places!!

We are (in)famous for breakdown maintenance instead of preventive maintenance... Even the school/people transport crisis in villages in twin cities is being actioned after leading newspaper published daily articles... Why there is no interaction with public after vote seeking???... Why MESCOM officials have public grievances meetings???... All these must be done periodically much prior to serious phenomenon like rainy season....
