Mangaluru, Jun 23: St Sebastian Church, Permannur celebrated Vanamahotsava 2024, under the leadership of Indian Catholic Youth Movement & Catholic Sabha along with Environment Commission, on June 23. In the church premises after the 7:30 a.m. mass, a small inauguration programme was organised.
ICYM president Rishal D'Souza welcomed the gathering. Parish priest, Fr Cyprian Pinto, presided over the programme. In his presidential speech, he highlighted the importance of growing plants and trees around us and appreciated the associations for taking the initiative.
Central Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh president, Alwyn D'Souza, was the chief guest of the programme. In his speech, he shed light on how to take care of saplings and reminded everyone of our duty to protect our planet for future generations.
St Sebastian parish pastoral council vice-president Arun D'Souza, and secretary Jyothi D'Souza, Mangalore South Deanery Catholic Sabha president Dolphy D'Souza (also a coordinator of all Commissions), Bethel Convent superior Sr Joseph Mary, ICYM president Rishal D'Souza, secretary Nishitha Lobo & animator Rayan D'Souza, Catholic Sabha Permannur unit president Prashanth D'Souza & secretary Delphine Pais, Environment Commission coordinator Loyd D'Souza, were the other guests on the dais.
The programme was inaugurated by handing over the saplings to the association members. Ward gurkars & parishioners were present during this programme. ICYM president Rishal D'Souza compered the programme.
After the programme, all members of ICYM, Catholic Sabha & Environment Commission planted saplings in 39 wards of the church. Altogether 1000 saplings were planted. Group photos were taken after planting the saplings.
